An offset plate converts RIP output into a press-ready image. Its performance depends on the platesetter, processing workflow, fountain solution, ink, and job conditions. Plate price alone cannot predict stable production.
Distinguish the workflow first

CTP is a workflow name, not one imaging technology. Start with platesetter nameplate photos, the current plate label, and the real processor settings.
Information to collect in one request
- Platesetter model, imaging type, RIP/screen settings, processor model, and actual developing, washing, gumming, and drying steps.
- Plate size, thickness, grain direction, punch or bend requirement, and current label.
- Typical job: screen/raster, fine text, solid coverage, run length, paper or packaging material, ink, and fountain system.
- Existing problem: weak dots, broken fine text, pinholes, scumming, early wear, batch variation, or excessive makeready waste.
Controlled plate trial
Clean and confirm the processing system first. Compare plates using the same RIP curve, imaging setting, paper, ink, fountain condition, and press speed. Do not change plate, developer, exposure curve, and fountain solution in the same trial.
Check the plate after imaging, then check the press result. Record control elements, fine text, highlights, solids, processing records, makeready waste, water-ink balance, cleaning frequency, and performance at the typical run length. For repeat supply, retain the plate batch, date, settings, and approved print sample.

Handling notes
- Store plates according to the label and technical data sheet: protected from light, moisture, heat, scratches, and contamination.
- Follow each chemical product’s safety data sheet. Do not mix unknown residues from different processing systems.
- Evaluate processless plates by final print quality, tonal stability, and waste, not only by the visibility of the plate image.
- Imaging, processing, and run-length settings must be confirmed by the actual plate TDS, platesetter manual, and trial result.
