The blanket and packing together form the transfer and pressure system. The blanket receives and transfers the image; its surface and compressible layer affect contact, recovery, smash resistance, and release. Packing controls total thickness and pressure. A correct cut size alone is not a correct installation.
Select by job and press
| Production condition | Focus | Confirm before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| Commercial sheetfed and fine screens | Dot stability, surface uniformity, recovery after cleaning | Stock, coverage, speed, existing samples |
| Carton, packaging, or heavy solids | Release, impact resistance, solid uniformity, surface resistance | Board, coverage, delivery, finishing |
| UV or special inks | Compatibility with ink and cleaning chemistry | Ink/cleaner system and current blanket label |
| Pre-cut, bar, or punched installation | Dimensions, thickness, direction, holes, tolerance | Old sample, press drawing, mounting method |
Installation and trial
- Record cut size, nominal and measured thickness, direction, mounting, packing material/layers, and press model.
- Inspect cylinders and packing for burrs, residue, moisture, wrinkles, or deformation. Measure total packing according to the press manual.
- Install with the specified tension and sequence. Do not change packing by feel or use pressure to compensate for an unmeasured condition.
- Trial on one typical job with the same stock, ink, fountain condition, speed, and existing packing. Change only the blanket in the first comparison.
- Record makeready waste, water feed, register correction, solid coverage, fine text, highlights, ghosting, cleaning frequency, and condition after the typical run length.
Troubleshooting order
| Symptom | Check first | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Uneven solids, dot distortion, local piling | Total packing, pressure, surface, packing flatness | Adding/removing packing without measurement |
| Paper picking, set-off, or piling | Stock, pressure, cleaning, speed, delivery | Increasing pressure as the only remedy |
| Performance not recovered after cleaning | Compatible cleaner, method, surface damage | Unknown strong solvent or repeated soaking |
| Early dents or edge damage | Mounting, cut, packing, pressure, foreign matter | Treating every mechanical mark as blanket life |
